Clacton Gazette reports that Colchester Town Hall, Clacton Pier, and Clacton town hall will be ‘turned purple’ in order to raise awareness of sexual abuse and sexual violence. The report stated that these landmarks will be illuminated until the following Sunday to mark the awareness of Sexual abuse and violence.
This particular news story was successful in regard to the facts it presented to readers. I think this story is very powerful as the subject of sexual abuse and violence is one that has become more present in headlines over the past few years.
The Gazette encompasses reports on how the town hall is raising money for CARA (Centre for Action on Rape and Abuse) which will be invited by most if not all readers. The report also includes quotes from the director of the fundraiser Helen Parr and also Mike Lilley, Colchester Councils portfolio holder for planning, public safety and licensing; this adds depth to the news report and authenticity.
The Gazette finishes the reporting using information regarding the number of people that have been affected by sexual abuse or violence and includes the frightening age it can start from. I think this is really powerful as it informs the readers not only about what the charity is doing but also the severity of the issue.
