David Cameron Plea

Updated: Feb 13, 2019

One task at University in our Practical Journalism module was to report on a speech made by David Cameron back in 2013.

This is my first attempt:

DAVID CAMERONS PLEA WITH EUROPEAN UNION

On July 23rd 2013, David Cameron steps up in Bloomberg to persuade the European Union to reform within or suffer the possible consequences. Prime minister of the UK and leader of the conservative party is facing a significant rise in the UKIP party which could possibly hinder the current relationship Britain and the European Union have. Recently Douglas Carswell won the majority for UKIP this has led Cameron to fear people will chose UKIP over his conservative party. The main points of Cameron's plea were for the EU to reform from the inside as oppose to from the outside.

At this stage in Cameron's role of Prime Minister, he isn't calling an in our referendum just yet, he wants us to understand 'what is it we are actually in or out of' before we make any decisions with considerable consequences'.

Cameron is keen to build a future that Britain wants and should want to play an active part in. His overriding purpose is not to win peace for the nation but to secure prosperity for our country leaving us with a low level of unemployment and a growing economy.
