Hospital Parking Fury

Updated: Mar 20, 2020

Colchester Gazette published a story last week regarding the issue of parking spaces at Colchester General hospital. Overall, the report included different elements of information, some numbers, quotes from visitors and also a spokesman for the hospital.

I liked how this report was straight to the point in the first paragraph, it tells the readers exactly what the story will encompass, including statistics of how the hospital had received twice as many complaints in the past three months.

The report includes various quotes but what I thought was important was the quotes from Hospital visitors Fiona Boom and Natalie Copping. This is a primary source which shows that the Colchester Gazette has obtained this story and quotes themselves making the story more powerful. The quotes themselves were short but again, to the point which is good for readers to understand the issue.

In addition to this, there are quotes from the Spokesman which again are again, primary sources which could indicate that the Gazette have pushed this story further by speaking to him. This also makes this story a balanced report as it has information coming from both sides, I think this is a good way of reporting as it gives readers both side of the argument.
