Man "deserves medal" after roundabout tragedy

Monday 9th September, HGV vehicle careered through roundabout during rush hour in Bradford, West Yorkshire, causing severe delays.

Reports have confirmed the lorry driver, Ken Sugden, suffered a heart attack at the wheel causing him to drive across the roundabout in an attempt to avoid injury to others.

The vehicle was approaching the roundabout from Highfield Road and soon came to a stop on Idle road.

David Greasley wrote on the Telegraph & Argus Facebook page, stating: "I was behind him, I personally think he tried to put it onto the roundabout, to prevent anybody getting injured or worse still killed."

Greasley added that the vehicle "seemed to swerve" heading for the shops on Idle road.

CPR was carried out at the scene however, the driver was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) where he later died.

One bystander said: "You had to look quite hard to see the damage to the lorry. When you consider how far it has gone and what it has gone through, it was almost undamaged."

"It’s amazing when you think where that lorry had gone through, demolishing bollards, taking out a roundabout and coming to rest so far away from that scene - to think nobody got hurt is amazing."

Local resident Lawrence Butler, former paramedic hearing about the incident stated "It's a miracle nobody was hurt the man deserves a medal!"
