Each Thursday the University of Essex holds a plethora of market stalls for students to purchase a variety of things. Local businesses set up for the day in order to sell their produce. Fresh bread, cheese, jewellery, cakes,  posters and CDs all available to buy on campus.

The market stalls were set up during our Practical Journalism class so this was the perfect opportunity to practice basic photography skills.

Using my smartphone I experimented with the different settings available to my camera. My favourite setting is what is known as 'portrait'.  This allows the subject of the picture to be in the main focus whilst blurring out anything in the background.

This particular camera setting, in my opinion, creates a better quality photo but, can be difficult when trying to get certain images in the correct position in order for the setting to work.

I have posted some of my own photos taken on that day on this page.

During the time I spent taking photos I spoke to first-year student Niamh. I asked her a few questions regarding the market stalls and if she thought they were a good idea and brought something positive to the university.

"I think it's really interesting when you see different types of food come to the university as we have a lot of diversity on campus which is great. I think it's really good to have something for everyone that's not just in the shops."
