For this week’s work experience I was able to stay in the office all day and work on a number of different press releases, summarising information down to 150 words.
This proved quite the challenge as it requires certain skill to choose the most important information for an effective publication.
I then had the opportunity to write about a current topic that’s experienced all over. However, I was given the task of localising it.
Exam stress nutrition was the topic and I got in touch with local nutritionist via email to get first-hand knowledge and advice for young people dealing with exam stress.
I then had a look on the local area’s NHS website and used extracts of information from there.
Throughout the day I continued receiving press releases, condensing them and sending them via email them for publication.
I found this challenging as some of the press releases were quite lengthy which made it difficult to condense down to the specified word count.
I also found the localising task slightly difficult as there wasn’t much information online and despite trying to get in touch with local nutritionist, they either didn’t answer calls or didn’t respond to emails in time.
